Dorothy Fellowes Website Awards 2022

We thought that we would write this week about the Dorothy Fellowes Website Awards, which are proudly sponsored by Ancestry.
We thought you would like to know what they are all about.
Dorothy Fellowes initially developed, and continues to support, these awards to highlight the vital importance of Societies having an effective website. Let’s face it, in today’s tech world it has become even more important!

The Website Awards acknowledge the best of the websites submitted for assessment and encourage other Association Members to look at the winning websites when building and maintaining this important aspect of their Society.
Websites should be attractive, accurate and informative about the Society’s activities.
There are two categories for the award:
Category A: Best website designed and administered by a society member,
Category B: Best website designed by a professional designer and administered by a society member.
Societies that have previously entered MUST have changes to the website prior to it being entered again. Winners of the Award must wait for two years before they can enter again.

There are several assessment criteria used by the judges for this award:
General Appearance – Page Design and Colouring etc.,
Ease of Navigation through the site (also links which all work correctly),
Quantity & Quality (in particular the Local Content, it may be Local Data and/or History),
What sets them apart from the other contenders?
If the Society has a ‘members only section’ the judges will need access to enable a more detailed assessment of the website.
Judges discuss their evaluations and the merits of each website and forward their recommendations to the Association for the Awards which are then presented at the Conference.

There have been years where there have been no winners in the second category of the award.
The last winners of the award in 2021 were:
Category A: Botany Bay Family History Society Inc.
Category B: Bathurst Family History Group Inc.
Has your Society updated their website? Why not submit it for judging!
Entries are open until Friday 22 July 2022!
