Documenting and preserving our family histories through the use of oral history has become increasingly popular in recent years. Most family historians look back at some stage and regret the fact that they didn’t ask the right questions of older family members while they were still alive. Today’s technology provides us with wonderful opportunities to record the reminiscences of family members.

We are most fortunate to have Dr Janis Wilton as one of our speakers at the 2020 Conference. With over thirty years experience as an oral historian, Janis will share her ideas and skills with us to guide us in our use of oral history as a means of recording our family history.

I recently attended a talk by Meg Keneally about her most recent book. Sitting next to me was a pleasant woman who introduced herself as ‘Janis’ – what a surprise to find myself seated next to the lady I had emailed earlier in the week to invite as a speaker to our conference!!

  1. It will be great to hear Janis. There are some great oral history initiatives happening around NSW at the moment.
